Dear Parents, 
 
Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
 
This letter comes to you from the Lincoln Land Down Syndrome Society.  We are a group of parents and community volunteers who would like to support you in coping with and learning about something you may or may not have expected… a baby with Down syndrome.
 
This is a time to celebrate the new addition to your family!  Your baby is a baby first with his or her own unique personality, talents, and thoughts.  Your baby will grow and learn and before you know it he or she will be going to school, making friends, and going to birthday parties.  Just like all parents, you have dreams for your child to be a happy productive individual with friends and life skills.  We know these things can happen because our children are living proof.
 
Many of our parents have benefitted and gained valuable information from networking with each other and sharing their experiences.  We hope that you will join us at our social activities and meetings.  Additionally, the second Monday of each month a playgroup for children birth to five is held.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other moms in a casual and relaxed atmosphere and there is a flyer with more information included in this packet.   
 
We hope that this information is helpful to you.  This is a time that is filled with both joy and challenges and we congratulate you on the birth of your baby!
