Scholarship Program
Once again, the Lincoln Land Down Syndrome Society
(LLDSS) will offer scholarship funds to individuals with Down syndrome who would like to participate in extracurricular therapeutic
and educational opportunities. Rather than having the LLDSS executive committee identify specific “acceptable” activities on
a case-by-case basis during the year, to the possible exclusion of other, equally beneficial activities, LLDSS will simply allocate
an amount of funds available for each individual with Down syndrome who may be interested in participating in activities of his or
her own choosing.
As in the past, the year will be divided into two (2) activity “periods” – Period
One will be from January 1 to June 30 and Period Two will be from July 1 to December 31.
The only criteria
for receiving funds from LLDSS for activities are as follows:
· Individuals with Down syndrome will be eligible to receive
scholarship funds;
· Activities chosen must be therapeutic and/or educational in nature;
· LLDSS will pay for
activities directly to the provider and it is the responsibility of the parent to provide a copy of an invoice for payment (LLDSS
cannot pay the child or his or her parents directly in the event they pay for the activity and seek reimbursement);
· One
or both parents of scholarship program participants must either (i) volunteer to work at a major fundraising event (Buddy Walk, golf
outing, etc.), (ii) serve as an officer, committee chairperson or member of the Board of Directors of LLDSS or (iii) attend two (2)
regular meetings in each scholarship period; and
· The LLDSS executive committee may determine whether the above criteria
are met.
Anyone who meets the above criteria will be entitled to receive scholarship funds from LLDSS. Any child of a parent who participates in the scholarship program during a period and does not meet the participation qualifications
described above during that period will not be eligible to receive scholarship funds during the next period.
The LLDSS executive committee will determine the amount which participants will receive during each period. Remember, this is
not a “needs-based” program. LLDSS encourages all individuals with Down syndrome to participate in this scholarship program,
regardless of other sources of income or support.
